Vancouver Fall Events and Festivals

Fringe Festival – September 5 -15, 2024

The Fringe Festival is the largest alternative theatre event of its kind in BC. It has been running since 1985 and features more than 700 performances. The performances showcase a variety of theatrical styles, and there is something for everyone, from comedy to drama to dance.

Mexican Dance Ensemble Vancouver presents Viva La Danza – September 7, 2024

Mexican folklore dance and live music performance presented by the Mexican Dance Ensemble. The series of diverse and unique performances features the 10 piece Mariachi Los Dorados, the six-piece Norteño band Los Grandes, professional singer Naty Cerecedo and thirty dancers on stage at the Vancouver Playhouse Theatre.

Artists for Conservation Festival – September 19-22, 2024

Artists for Conservation Festival is a multi-day nature-themed arts and culture for all ages to experience a blend of visual art, cultural performances, workshops, wildlife and art demonstrations, and more.

International Flamenco Festival September 12-24, 2024

For more than thirty years, the Vancouver International Flamenco Festival has been one of the few festivals celebrated outside Spain dedicated to the art of flamenco. Performances take place at Granville Islands’ Waterfront, Vancouver Playhouse and other venues.

Jersey Boys – September 5 – October 20, 2024

Apple Festival – UBC Botanical Garden – October 19-20, 2024

This is the 33rd year of the UBC Apple Festival at Botanical Gardens.

Activities: Apples and apple trees will be available to buy. There is a children’s area, a food and craft fair, entertainment, and a display of nearly 200 types of apples grown in BC. For an additional fee, you can taste a variety of heritage and new apples in the tasting tent. Tickets provide access to the UBC Botanical Gardens and Greenheart TreeWalk. Download a map.

Admission: $7 for the early bird and $10 regular. Tickets are only available online for the event and are limited for the best possible experience. Purchase an additional ticket for the Apple Tasting Tent. Early bird pricing is in effect until September 21. Everyone must have a ticket. Ages 7 and under are free.

Vancouver International Film Festival – September 26–October 6, 2024

Celebrating its 44th year, VIFF is one of North America’s largest film festivals. The festival will present about 120 features and 100 short films. Buy tickets online. Tickets are now on sale for two VIFF Live events, and VIFF+ Members can purchase festival ticket packs starting today. Ticket packs go on sale to the general public on August 28.

Monster Jam – September 28-29, 2024

BC Culture Days – September – October 16, 2024

BC Culture Days is a three-week celebration of culture, heritage and arts in communities around BC.

Chutzpah Festival – November 2-23, 2024

The Chutzpah Festival provides various entertainment performances by Canadian artists across Canada. Choose from concerts, new dance works, comedy, theatre, film, and storytelling, with opportunities to interact with creative artists.

Circle Craft Christmas Market – November 6-10, 2024

The Circle Craft Christmas Market has been a tradition in Vancouver since 1972. It is Western Canada’s largest craft market.

East Van Panto has become a holiday favourite and is back for its 12th year with Robin Hood. It starts as a beautiful day in Trout Lake for Robin Hood and the Merry-Thems until they discover the naughty sheriff has other plans—the parks have been privatized! Everyone, including the birds and animals, must pay to use the park. A trip to the library to read up on their rights leads Robin and friends on a grand adventure to invade Britannia, retrieve the keys to the city’s public amenities, and try to steal back our neighbourhood from the rich and powerful. Belle takes the audience on a hilarious adventure through East Van neighbourhoods. Bell meets the Beast in an enchanted specialty grocery store where she is imprisoned.

Lumière – Returning November 7-10, 2024

Lumière is an incredible series of interactive light displays at several locations in Vancouver’s West End, Downtown and Granville Island. This is the 10th year the event has provided Vancouver an exceptional visual experience.

Activities: There are numerous stunning art and interactive light displays in Vancouver.
Admission: Free for all to enjoy.
Some installations will stay until February 2024. The displays are best viewed after sunset. Locations: TBA

Hopscotch Festival Grand Tasting Hall – November 28, 29, 2024

The Hopscotch Festival is a premium tasting event for beer and spirits in BC. At the festival there will be more than 250 products of whiskey, cider, wine, beer and other spirits to sample and learn about. Food will be served and there will be live music.

Masterclasses hosted by Scottish Island distilleries are available for whiskies in a more intimate private sip and learn setting.

The event takes place at the PNE Forum.

Burnaby Events

Pumpkins After Dark – October 3-31, 2024

Pumpkins After Dark in Burnaby is back again for another season of fun and is becoming a tradition for Burnaby Halloween festivities. This family-fun event features a wonderland of lit pumpkin sculptures and displays, with music, sounds and special effects. Explore the 3D blacklight Monster Maze before winding your way along the magical pathway to see classic Halloween characters, dinosaurs and dragons, movie and pop culture icons. There are lots of great photo ops and live pumpkin carving demos.

Breakfast with the Bears on Grouse Mountain – September 2024

Breakfast with the Bears allows early access to the mountain to watch our resident Grizzly bears, Grinder and Coola, enjoy their breakfast and learn from one of our wildlife experts about Grizzlies and bear conservation. This special experience includes a delicious buffet breakfast in The Grizzly Lookout and special gifts from Grinder and Coola.

Vancouver Cheese and Meat Artisan Food and Beverage Festival – November 2, 2024

A showcase of artisan cheeses and meats from the Pacific Northwest, along with liquor samples. Participants are given a small charcuterie board to try the samples described by the vendors.

There are three tasting times offered: 11 am, 3 pm, and 7 pm, or a full pass for all. Buy tickets.

The festival occurs at the historic Pipe Shop, 115 Victory Ship Way, North Vancouver.

Capilano Regional Park – Celebrate Salmon Season – mid-October through early November

Take a short hike at Capilano Regional Park to view salmon swimming up river to spawn. The Coho Look provides some of the best views. Walk through towering Douglas fir trees to cross two bridges to take in scenic views of the river.

The trail is a 1 km loop and starts near the Capilano Fish Hatchery. Download a map.

Ambleside Farmers Market – Now until the end of October

Shop the Ambleside Farmers Market for an assortment of BC Crafts, various farm-fresh produce and delicious prepared foods.

The market is open from 10 am – 3 pm on Sundays at Ambleside Park, located at the foot of 13th Street.

New Westminster Fall Festivals and Events

New Westminster Cultural Crawl – November 4-6, 2024

The New Westminster Culture Crawl celebrates its 21st festival of visual arts, design and crafts showcased across the Royal City.

Hidden Wonders Speakeasy Magic Experience – every week through December 2024

Two-time world champion of magic Shawn Farquhar will perform his intimate sleight-of-hand trickery at a secret location in historic downtown New Westminster. Farquhar has appeared on Ellen, Masters of Illusion and Fool Us. Only ticket holders will be given the exact location. Book tickets.

Richmond and Delta Fall Festivals and Events

Reifel Bird Sanctuary Lesser Snow Geese start arriving in October through mid-December

Visit the Reifel Bird Sanctuary, one of the top birding watching spots in North America, to see masses of white Lesser Snow Geese. In January 2021, the mid-winter count was 135,000.

Snow Geese like to sleep on the water, and large, dense flocks can often be seen in the marshes and rivers in the Sanctuary. Find out more.

Richmond Night Market – Every weekend until October 14, 2024

The Richmond Night Market is the largest event of its kind in North America. Come experience the array of international foods, interesting characters and creative merchandise sold by many booths. There are more than 110 food booths along with food trucks offering more than 600 different foods, drinks and desserts.

Coquitlam Fall Festivals and Events

Salmon Come Home Celebration – mid-October through early November

Celebrate the return of salmon to Coquitlam rivers. The prime time to see chum, chinook, and coho salmon battle their way up the river to their spawning grounds is usually mid-October through early November.

Coquitlam has eight viewing spots, but one of the best is the Hoy Creek Linear Park. Download special free self-guided activities, scavenger hunt and map. Caution always watch out for bears. Know what to do if you encounter a bear.

Surrey Fall Festivals and Events

Filipino Festival – September 22, 2024

Celebrate the Philippines. This event is held at the Surrey Museum. Enjoy live performances, dance, music, and ocean-inspired expressive arts with Filipino-Canadian artist Paulina Constancia, Tagalog and English storytelling, and more.

Spooktacular Halloween Market – October 26, 2024

Celebrating its seventh year, the Spooktacular Halloween Market is larger than ever. This fun-filled family event features 100 vendor tables, food trucks, and free kids’ activities like a bounce house, face painting, and balloon twisters. There will be special guests, photo ops throughout and a raffle. Costumes are encouraged! Admission is by donation to the Surrey Hospitals Foundation. Hours: 10 am-4 pm.

The market is located in two buildings, Shannon Hall and Alice McKay, on the Cloverdale Fairgrounds, 6050 176th Surrey.

Spooktacular Halloween Market

Dreadworks Haunted House – September 27 – November 3, 2024

Somnara Studios’ debut of Dreadworks Haunted House is an outstanding premier immersive experience that takes horror to a new level using science fiction and different genres of fear. Ken Honigman of the famous Anmore Manor has joined the Dreadworks team as co-owner of the haunted house as they push the boundaries of traditional haunted attracts.

Bear Creek Park Lights – November 2-16, 2024

Bear Creek Park Lights offers a safe, fun family-friendly evening event.

Journey through half-kilometre trails of the park gardens to be dazzled by a series of illuminated natural landscapes and whimsical light displays.

The display runs from November 2 – 16, from 4:30 – 9:30 pm. The event is closed on November 11 for Remembrance Day.

Tickets go are available Oct 15 and must be booked in advance.  Tickets are free for this event. There are 80 tickets for each booking time. Entry times are available every 30 minutes.

Maple Ridge Fall Festivals and Events

Celebrate the Night – Festival of Lights – October 19, 2024

Activities: Celebrating fall and Halloween. Family fun-filled activities include storytelling, pumpkins, crafts, games, food trucks and a fireworks finale.

Langley Fall Festivals and Events

The Bog Riverside Cranberry Farm – Late September – October 2024

Experience the Cranberry Harvest and Farm Tour at Riverside Cranberry Farm.

Take the Harvest Walk around the perimeter of the cranberry field to watch active cranberry harvesting. Then, take a self-guided audio tour to learn about cranberry farming and its history. There are lots of great photo opportunities. For an additional fee, take the cranberry plunge wading experience.

Remember to visit the farm-to-table store on site to pick up fresh cranberries for Thanksgiving. The stage of harvest cannot be guaranteed for tour date purchased.

Activities: Pumpkin Patch, U-Pick apples, slides, zipline, bee hive viewing, cider press demonstrations, petting barn, three corn mazes (Mystery Maze, Corn Quest Maze, and the kiddie maze), pedal carts, hay rides, playground, Jumping Pillow and Pumpkin Pillow, Bunny Town, and Farmville. Pick up a locally grown pumpkin.

The concession food is available on weekends and is delicious. Kids love the apple cider slushies, and we tried the new Sweet Bubble Waffle Chocolate Brownie Explosion and savoury Bubble Waffle with pulled pork. Both hit the spot. Roasted corn on the cob and mini donuts are also a popular fall treat.

Hours: The entire farm is open starting September 1, 2024. The Corn Maze opens September 10, 2024 and the Pumpkin Patch opens the last weekend in September until October 31, 2024. Check to see which activities are available.

Maan Farms Fall Festival opens September 14, 2024

Activities: Celebrate family fun at the 11th annual Fall Festival on the Maan Farm. The Barnyard Adventureland features a zip line, pedal kart track, giant tire crawl, play fortress, jumping pillow, and giant slides.

The Classic Pumpkin Patch includes taking a photo in the Pumpkin House with a Princess. The four-acre poop-themed Corn Maze is an interactive daytime adventure of interesting facts. There is also an animal play area with goats and hay wagon rides.

The festive fall and Halloween-inspired treats are popular and tasty. There are apple juice pumpkins, wine-filled ‘blood’ bags at the Blood Bar, Mad Jack Pumpkin Spice wine, and a Creepy Cloud Cocktail.

We tasted the Butter Chicken Naan Tacos, Double Pumpkin SpiceCream, and Pumpkin Spice Mini Donuts, which were all delicious. Hours: Opens September 14 for the Fall at the Farm. Pumpkin Patch opens around September 24, 2024

The 6th Annual Fraser Valley Distillery+Beer Festival is a unique event that combines lively entertainment and delicious food with the finest artisan spirits, liquors, and seasonal brews from across the region.

Agassiz Fall Fair and Corn Festival – September 13 and 14, 2024

This year’s Agassiz Fall Fair celebrates 120 years and the Corn Festival, 76 years. This long running event draws about 10,000 people to partake in a wealth of agricultural entertainment and fun activities, including midway rides. There are food and artisan booths, a parade, farm animals and assorted competitions.

Celebrating 25 years, the Brackendale Fall Fair is a great family event. It offers food, music, hay rides, farm animals, 80 vendors with local produce, handmade artisan goods and more.
